The Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education has launched a new e-learning programme, ‘The General Data Protection Regulation - making it work.’

This programme is intended “to increase the awareness, understanding and required skills necessary of community pharmacy teams to implement the GDPR and associated legislation.”

Learning points for the programme, which requires one hour’ study time, are to:

  • describe the importance of GDPR;
  • discuss responsibilities as a pharmacy team member with regards to GDPR;
  • explain how the pharmacy will demonstrate it is compliant with GDPR;
  • identify a personal data incident within the pharmacy and know how to report it;
  • implement effective solutions to ensure the pharmacy is compliant with GDPR;
  • support other members of the pharmacy team to access resources which enable the implementation of GDPR.

The GDPR came into effect in May 2018. CPPE’s e-learning programme “will allow pharmacy professionals the opportunity to demonstrate how their workplaces are compliant with the regulation. It will also consider what solutions are required to ensure the workplace is compliant, while helping pharmacy professionals to identify personal data incidents.”
