A health minister has indicated that the community pharmacy flu vaccination scheme will be recommissioned for the 2018-19 season.


In a written answer, Steve Brine MP, the minister with responsibility for pharmacy, said that updated information about use of the adjuvanted trivalent influenza vaccine for 2018-19 had been circulated to GPs and clinical commissioning groups by Public Health England in December 2017.

“This update will also be made available to community pharmacies as part of confirming that the Advanced Influenza Vaccination service has been recommissioned in early 2018. Community pharmacies are able to order relevant vaccines as detailed in the service specification, including the enhanced vaccine for patients within the relevant cohort,” he said.

The information was given in response to a question from the All-Party Pharmacy Group’s chairman, Sir Kevin Barron MP. He had asked what plans there were “to encourage the take-up of the new enhanced influenza vaccine for the over-65s for the 2018-19 influenza season with GPs and pharmacies.”
