The Department of Health and Social Care has set out the lines of inquiry for the independent review into GP partnerships and is inviting evidence.

Announced in May, the review is being led by Dr Nigel Watson. He has been asked to consider:

  • the challenges facing partnerships within the context of general practice and the wider NHS;
  • the benefits and shortcomings of the partnership model for patients, partners, salaried GPs, locum GPs, practice nurses, and the wider NHS;
  • how best to reinvigorate the partnership model to equip it to help transform general practice.

In order to “examine the challenges currently facing the partnership model, and look for solutions to reinvigorate the model to support the transformation of general practice,” a call for evidence has now been issued along four key lines of enquiry:

  • workload issues;
  • workforce issues;
  • the role of general practice in the local healthcare system;
  • the business model of general practice.

GPs and others with an interest are asked “to get involved by sharing their experiences and ideas.”
