Over 3,000 doctors have been recruited under the current Round 1 GP trainee recruitment programme, “well on the way” to meeting the 3,250 target. The current fill rate is 3,019 compared to 2,732 this time last year, a 10% increase.

The figures were released by the Health Education England at the NHS Confederation’s annual conference and exhibition in Manchester.

HEE Chief Executive, Professor Ian Cumming said: “This is a record breaking figure and is up 10% on the figures for this time last year. We still have Round 2 to go but I am confident that we will hit 3,250 target for the first time in our history.”
